Here are brief reviews of each of the board books:
¡Me gusta cómo soy! / I Like Myself! by Karen Beaumont, illustrated by David Catrow
Baby librarian Marian’s review: This one is my favorite of the four board books. It’s perfectly sized for my hands, and I definitely like myself. I love looking at pictures of myself on Mommy’s phone, and smiling and singing to my mirror girl me.
Margaret’s review: We own a giant sized version of this without the Spanish. I love this smaller bilingual version! I actually prefer it to ours. The illustrations are funny and adorable.
Clean Up, Up, Up! by Ellen Mayer, illustrated by Ying-Hwa Hu
Marian’s review: This book is funny. It’s much better to take toys out than to put them up! But somehow the Daddy and baby in this book make putting away toys look like fun.
Margaret’s review: This is a cute book about spatial concepts (up, down, between, etc) AND cleaning up. I love that it features a dad and a biracial couple.
Baby Sees Colors! by Akio Kashiwara
Marian’s review: I love all the colors! There are stripes and circles and fish and snakes. I like to trace the colors with my finger.
Margaret’s review: As both Marian and the title says, this is a bright and colorful book! It’s perfect for babies of all ages, but I remember how infatuated with colors Marian was when she was born and through about 4 months, and I would’ve loved to have had this book then.
My Heart Fills With Happiness by Monique Gray Smith, illustrated by Julie Flett
Marian’s review: I have this same book, and it makes me think about when my heart fills with happiness. Like when Daddy lets me sleep with him instead of in the bed, or when Mommy makes me go up and down. The taste of books and peas, watching the broadway version of The Phantom of the Opera. These things fill my heart with happiness. It’s a good feeling.
Margaret’s review: I LOVE this board book. It’s one of my favorites. It’s so sweet and kind and the illustrations are lovely.
