Baby book review: Chu’s Day by Neil Gaiman, illustrated by Adam Rex

Baby librarian Tilly and her mum Jen review the funny board book Chu’s Day by Neil Gaiman, illustrated by Adam Rex.

Tilly reviews Chu’s Day

This is one of my favourite books. I can even read it aloud! I help Mummy when she reads it. It’s about a panda named Chu and when he sneezes everything blows over! He goes to the library and the diner and the circus and he doesn’t need to sneeze but then he does and the whole circus is BLOWN AWAY. It’s pretty great. This book doesn’t have very many words but the ones it does have are ones I know so this is maybe my best book.

Jen reviews Chu’s Day

This is a very charming little book! Another one where a lot of the story is in the pictures, and so you spend a lot of time not so much reading the text on the page but pointing out and discussing what the drawings are showing. And this is in fact one that Tilly can read aloud and it is adorable when she does. There are two scenes where Chu is asked if he’s going to sneeze, and when he says ‘no’, Tilly does too. She also sneezes when Chu does. So it’s not like she’s reading complex sentences, but hey I think it counts as her reading aloud. I borrowed this as an impulse-borrow from the library and we liked it so much that we bought our own copy.
