Tilly’s review
This book is fun because it has a lot of animals. There is a cow, a donkey, a sheep, a pig, and a little mouse. Mummy always talks about a goat too but I don’t see a goat in the story so I don’t really know what she’s talking about. Mummy’s not very good at animals. Anyway. The animals go for a row in a boat on a nice sunny day. And there’s a mystery! The boat sank and we have to solve the mystery of who sank it! I like mysteries so I like this book.
Jen’s review
It is true that I am not great at animal identification, but I am most definitely not confused about the goat. See, these animals all decide to go for a row in the bay. They climb aboard one by one, and it is none of the larger animals who sank the boat. It is apparently the little mouse, the lightest of all, the last to get in — he sank the boat. I tell Tilly that he’s the scapegoat; that it was the collective weight of all the animals that sank the boat. It wasn’t the mouse! A great book for reading aloud and I love the details in the illustrations — you can see Pig’s umbrella floating away on the last page. The way the book is written as rhyming questions makes it a great one to use as conversation with a baby.
