Baby librarian Tilly and her mum Jen review the great picture book Bonnie and Ben Rhyme Again by Mem Fox, illustrated by Judy Horacek.

This is the other Bonnie and Ben book. There are two of them. I like them both a lot and I like the rhymes in both of them. But maybe I like this one a tiiiiny bit better because there are more rhymes that are songs in this and I can sing them all. I like singing! My favourite parts of this book are Jack’s owie [mum’s note: Jack and Jill went up the hill], the plums on the plum tree [Little Jack Horner], and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I think this is maybe one of the best books in the whole world.

This book is the sequel to Good Night, Sleep Tight, which we reviewed here. It came out in Australia back in 2018 (we went to a story time at one of m favourite bookshops in Sydney when Mem Fox and Judy Horacek were promoting the book, which I wrote about here. It was awesome.) and Amazon tells me that it’s out on 11 February and you can preorder it now—I guess America is only just getting it now? I love this book. I love both the Bonnie and Ben books for the all the nursery rhymes that are in there (it is so important to read nursery rhymes to your babies!), and how it’s beautifully scaffolded by a simple yet charming plot about Bonnie and Ben and their bedtimes. Great illustrations, one of the best read-aloud for bedtime that I’ve ever read, and easily would be one of my desert-island bedtime books. I strongly encourage anyone with a toddler to get a copy of both this and Good Night Sleep Tight.
