Baby book review: The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson

The Gruffalo book coverTilly’s review

Mummy used to read this one a lot, because her friend Briana gave the picture book to us as a present. Then she stopped because I started grabbing at the pages. But now she reads it again because Daddy bought it as a board book. I’m glad, because I like this book. I like the mouse and I especially like when Mummy’s voice goes scary when we meet the Gruffalo. My favourite Gruffalo book is my ‘touch and feel’ version because on the last page I can touch the Gruffalo’s tummy. The Gruffalo is furry and soft like my daddy.

Jen’s review

This is one of my favourite books, and the favourite to read aloud. The rhyme and the rhythm is perfect for reading out loud, and impressively I am not sick of this book yet, despite reading it almost daily for close to a year — high praise for a book. The characters feel like old friends, and the illustrations are bright and delightful. Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler have created a world that I am happy to return to again and again.
